A French hardstone cameo brooch, c.1860s, finely carved to depict a classical lady with a Greco Roman hairstyle.

She is carved in layered agate, and set in an Etruscan Revival 18ct gold frame with rope twist border, a style much in vogue in mid 19th century France.

This example was likely carved in Naples, and then exported to France for mounting.

 Measuring 4cm by 5cm, it represents fine craftsmanship and timeless elegance.
