A truly exceptional pair of English cufflinks, dated 1895 and unlike anything else.
Each round face is decorated with a finely rendered cat portrait - serious, majestic, and just a little mysterious - set beneath a rich field of royal blue guilloché enamel.
The detail is extraordinary: the feline’s stern expression is caught mid-glare, its presence dignified by a diamond-set collar that glitters softly under the translucent enamel.
On the reverse, the engraved dedication reads “Uncle Charles 1895”, a glimpse into a personal story now lost to time, but rich with charm and character.
Were they a tribute to a beloved relative? A favourite pet? Perhaps both.
The baton terminals are equally refined, enamelled in matching blue and each set with a single old-cut diamond, not a detail was spared in their making.
The craftsmanship is undeniably high, likely London-made, with all the eccentricity and affection of late Victorian bespoke jewellery.
Impossibly elegant, unexpectedly witty, and entirely unforgettable, these cufflinks are wearable storytelling at its finest.
Available exclusively at ELTONS, Grays Antique Market, Mayfair, London.
