This striking Arts and Crafts ring brings together everything the movement valued: honest materials, expressive design, and a strong sense of individuality.
At its centre is a beautifully coloured amethyst of around 5.5 carats, rich in tone and softly faceted to glow rather than sparkle.
It’s framed by natural pearls and delicately worked gold and silver, shaped into organic, foliate forms typical of the Birmingham School.
The design is attributed to Arthur and Georgie Gaskin, leading jewellers of their time and key figures in the English Arts and Crafts movement.
Made around 1915, the ring reflects their handwrought style: inspired by medieval craftsmanship but distinctly modern in its simplicity.
The mixed metals are deliberate, celebrating contrast and texture, and the absence of a hallmark is consistent with artist-made pieces produced outside the commercial mainstream.
It would have belonged to a woman of creative and independent spirit, someone who read poetry, admired William Morris, and dressed with intention. The design speaks to someone who wore jewellery not for show, but as an extension of identity - expressive, symbolic, and quietly glamorous.
A rare and soulful ring with real presence. Still wearable, still relevant, and full of character - just like the person it was made for.
Available exclusively at ELTONS, Grays Antique Market, Mayfair, London.
