A bold and beautifully structured Victorian ring, made in England around the 1880s and set in richly toned 18 carat gold.
The design centres on a trio of cushion-cut natural Sri Lankan sapphires, totalling approximately 1.45 carats, deep blue with flashes of silk and light.
Ten old cut diamonds, around 0.30 carats in total, frame the sapphires in two brilliant rows, creating contrast, rhythm, and just the right amount of sparkle.
The darkened silver collet settings enhance the brightness of the stones, and the closed-back construction is typical of the period.
With its distinctive horizontal profile and sculpted gallery, this is a statement piece of late 19th-century antique jewellery, with serious personality.
