This classic Victorian locket, handmade in rich 15ct gold, features a precisely inlaid checkerboard of carnelian and bloodstone, and was made in England around 1880.
The reverse opens to reveal a functional locket compartment, once used for a portrait or a lock of hair.
The deep red and forest green stones, both forms of agate, were prized not only for their durability but also for their symbolism: strength, courage, and protection.
Measuring just 2cm across, it remains elegant and effortlessly wearable even after 160 years.
Available exclusively at ELTONS, Grays Antique Market, Mayfair, London.
